No fewer than 11 soldiers have been killed while 19 others sustained injuries as Boko Haram terrorists attacked a military base in Polewire area of Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State.
Three members of a local vigilante group also lost their lives, while two others suffered injuries during the attack.
It was gathered that during the 3 and half-hour battle, which started at 4:30pm and ended 8pm, three Armoured Personnel Carriers, APC were burnt to ashes after dislodging troops from the location.
Security sources said the location is the major movement route of the terrorists crossing from Niger to Zamfara.
In a situation report sighted by Daily Nigerian, the military equipment lost or destroyed include 1 Legion MRAP; 1 Cobra APC; 1 Styer APC; DSHK machine gun; 2 HK 21 guns; 1 GPMG; 14 AK47 rifles; 3 pump action guns; 10 motorcycles, among others.
Although troops were later reinforced from Forward Operating Base in Gwaska at 9:15pm, there is no confirmation of the number of casualties from the terrorists’ side. (Daily Nigerian)
