A Professor of Economics, University of Lagos, Olufemi Muibi Saibu, has won the award for a research grant from the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission under the Jean Monet Actions in the field of Higher Education Modules Programme for a research project titled, “African-European Union Connectivity (EU-AFRICA CONNECT).”

Saibu who is the pioneer Director, Institute of Nigeria-China Development Studies, University of Lagos (INCDS-UNILAG), Nigeria, was announced in a statement by the University.

Through the remarkable work of Professor Saibu, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) is the sole beneficiary of the project with scholars from the University of Pavia, Italy, to serve as associate partners in the project.

The project, which is geared towards equipping undergraduate students in Nigeria to develop capacity in EU Social, political economic and EU-Africa Integration policy design, implementation and evaluation, will also serve as a way of promoting inclusive and mutually beneficial policy dialogue for Africa-European Union integration. The programme will adopt a progressive activities-based approach that starts with a summer school on Africa-European Union Connectivity followed by a research and policy analysis workshop and will conclude with a conference on European Union and African integration.

The project is a three (3) year project commencing from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2025 with a sum of Twenty-Six Thousand, Five Hundred Euro (€26,500.00) as the research grant for the full project to be paid in two instalments.
