The World institute for Peace under the leadership of Mr Lamina Kamiludeen Omotoyosi, has described as fake news, the reports of N1.8 billion naira, Rolex watches and other items allegedly found in the possession of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Burutai.
At a press conference held on Friday, in Osogbo, the Executive Chairman debunked the viral news of news of recovery by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) in Abuja.
According to Lamina, who described the whole news as fake news diligently analyzed further, stating that “Spreading fake news can only affect the peace of the nation. I was amazed when I read an inaccurate and concocted news on social media that multi-billion naira, dollars and Rolex watches were recovered by ICPC from Gen Buratai’s residence in Abuja. This is sad !!”
“The concocted news linking the recovered money and Rolex watches to Gen Buratai has been debunked by the ICPC. The commission had explained to the public where the money and Rolex watches were recovered from. Gen Buratai is a man of integrity who performed creditably well during his tenure as the Chief of Army Staff and it’s not the best for people to falsefully drag his name to the mire.
“In the last few hours, viral social media posts claimed that N1.85 billion was recovered from Gen. Tukur Buratai’s, former Chief of Army Staff home, office. This has caused quite a stir online and due to the questionable characters of some of the leaders and office holders in this country the news has been taken as fact. Worst still, reputable media outlets and publications have sponsored this information as true and this is so terrible and quite unpleasant to democracy we practice. World Institute for Peace outrightly condemns any act of disseminating fake information.
“However, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) clears the air with a report that is totally different from the misinformation been spread from some quarters of social media platforms against Gen (Amb) Tukur Buratai, the former Chief of Army Staff who double as the Nigeria Extraordinary Ambassador to Benin Republic.
