Barring any last-minute change, former Secretary to Osun State Government, SSG, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, his counsel and two others may end up in jail for lying on oath, otherwise known as perjury.
This development is sequel to the petition by the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, through its counsel, Gboyega Oyewole, SAN, alleging that Alhaji Adeoti and others forged the signature of the Chairman of the Osun State Governorship Screening Appeal Committee Report, presented an alleged fake report of the said committee and presented same to the court with the sole intent of misleading the court.
Adeoti contested the last Osun APC governorship primary as an anointed candidate of the Interior Minister and former Osun Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola , who had vowed to dislodge Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. But in the end, Oyetola floored Adeoti, recording 222, 169 to 12, 921.
However, Adeoti approached the court, seeking to be made the candidate on the grounds that Oyetola was not eligible to run at the time he contested the primary.
But APC has alleged that the affidavits filed by Adeoti before the court were forged and is therefore seeking a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
In the petition signed by its counsel, a copy of which was sighted, APC is alleging that Adeoti and his counsel forged the Data page of the International Passport of the Chairman of the committee, Dr. Umar Duhu Umar, in the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/203/2022, filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja, by Alhaji Adeoti.
Already, the Committee chairman and the members have deposed to another affidavits denying knowledge of the existence of the purported report being paraded by Adeoti and his cohorts.
To this end, APC is asking the Inspector General Police, IGP, to use his good offices to “direct the commencement of a discreet investigation into the glaring forgery and lying on oath perpetrated by Alhaji Adeoti and his counsel, having regard to the implications of the documents on which Dr. Umar Dauda’s signature were forged on the sanctity of the court and court processes.”
It will be recalled that this is not the first time Aregbesola’s loyalists, all of who are in The Osun Progressives, TOP, would be emshed in forgery allegation.
During the Congress of the party in Osun, TOP chairman, Elder Lowo Adebiyi, had, after forging the signatures of some members of the party, confessed before the Appeal Panel at the time that he would be withdrawing his petition and pleaded with his kinsmen to forgive him for forging their signatures.
