Members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ijesa south federal constituency in Osun State have raised alarm over incessant attack on them by some political hoodlums in the area.
The members during a press conference addresses by Remi Omowaiye on Friday in Ilesha, fingered the opposition People’s Democratic Party as the orchestrator of the recent attacks on APC members and electorates in the four local government areas of Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Ilesa east and Ilesa west.
Omowaiye, who is the Commissioner for Work and Transport in the State described the development in the area as “saddened”, stating that the alarm is necessary in view of severe bodily injuries caused on the members of the APC by the attackers. He also alleged the PDP members of being behind the disruption of the collection of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“Also to let the whole world know that the opposition party have sponsored some thugs to attack ward heads and youth leaders of the Constituency. Furthermore, to disrupt the collection of PVCs, so as to disenfranchise the citizens,” he said .
“We recalled that on Tuesday, 21st of June 2022, Governor Gboyega Oyetola was on his way from Osu when his convoy was attacked by Ajakale Seyi who also attacked the youth leader for Ilesha West, Hon Abiola Olagudu, where he was injured severely.
“Hours after attacking him, the thugs attacked different Representatives in their respective constituency, and we’re shooting sporadically, and this led to the unconsciousness state of one of the representatives, who is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
“The Ilesha people are peace loving people, this mustn’t be allowed to go unnoticed without the security operatives carrying out the necessary sanction”, he said.
The Commissioner for Works and Transports said that “the thugs were heavily armed and went into the PVCs collection center to attack and molest the citizens and incubating fear in them so as not to let them exercise their civic duties,making them run for thier dear lives”.
Omowaiye identified the names of the assailants as ,”Seyi Ajakaye, who led the assault, Adebayo Falade aka Bayo Landlord, Ali Basit, Lekan Akerele aka Elewedu, Lekan Olajuyi, aka Good Father and Bishop Apase.
He also said the thugs threatened them and told them that if they dared to hold a press conference, they would be in trouble and that their entire lives “are in danger”.
He used this conference as an avenue to reach to the security operatives, to come to their aid, recurring that they’ve reported this disheartening scenes and nothing was done about it.
He said the Commissioner of Police was in Ilesha on Thursday, and “has promised to assist us with security and he assured u11s of maximum security.”
Also speaking, the lawmaker representing Ijesha south in the House of Representatives, Lawrence Ayeni accused the PDP of disrupting the PVCs collection to disenfranchise Members of the APC.
He said “what the opposition party is doing is to delay and disrupt the collection of PVCs, so the electorates will not be able to exercise their civic rights as of which the deadline of the voter’s card collection ends on Sunday”.
