Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has called on the Labour Party candidate in the next Saturday’s governorship election, Lasun Yusuff to stop painting false picture of violence in the State.
The Governor, who was represented by his press secretary, Ismail Omipidan on Monday said the attack on Lasun Yussuff’s residence in Ilobu beats imagination, calling on security agents to investigate the said attack.
InsightMedia has reported that some unknown gunmen in the early hours of Monday attacked the country home of Lasun and shot sporadically into the building.
Some supporters of Lasun on Monday staged protest in Ilobu, alleging the Governor of planning of assassinate the politician. The protesters were armed with placards with different inscriptions.
But addressing newsmen in Osogbo, Omipidan said, “I’ll like to debunk the claim by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yussuff that some gunmen attacked his residence to the extent that he’s now alleging that the supporters of our governor, the governorship candidate of the APC, are allegedly behind the attack.
“The first thing that came to mind is where were his security men? I’m aware that as a former deputy speaker, he has s retinue of security men around him. I’m also aware that some of the mobile policemen stationed around his residence, on a normal day usually harass innocent passers-by, so I wonder where they were around 2:30am according to Lasun, when they (gunmen) attacked his place.”
Oyetola’s aide Lasun is never a threat to his principal, stating that the APC and Oyetola have not gone against the People’s Democratic Party and its members who have at different occasions vowed to unleash violence.

“In any case, Hon. Lasun Yussuff, with all due respect and all sense of responsibility, is not a threat to our candidate. He is not a threat to our governor. This was a man that contested the primary election with Mr governor some few months ago and couldn’t win Irepodun, where he comes from. How can someone who couldn’t win his local government in a primary election, suddenly become a threat to a governorship candidate?” Omipidan queried.
“From all indication, I see it as an attempt not only to blackmail the government, but to paint a wrong picture to Nigerians who are outside osun. If indeed there was tension in Osun, it’s something you will not only see but feel it. But you will agree with me that in less than seven days to the election, I’m not sure there’s anxiety anywhere or tension anywhere in Osun. So the picture, that Hon. Lasun is trying to paint is very unfortunate.
“Osun remains the most peaceful state in Nigeria, and we will do anything and everything as a government to protect and preserve that enviable status. On behalf of the government, we are calling on the security operatives to please kindly investigate the allegations by Hon. Lasun Yussuff, because I’m tempted to believe that he is planning yo unleash violence on the innocent people of Irepodun local government on the day of election, he’s therefore using this an alibi to prepare the grounds for what he wants to do because if we were what he paints us to be.
“I want to say again that Hon. Lasun Yussuff, should stop painting a false picture, we know how he boosted before the primaries.”
