A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has described Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State as a responsible man who has some elements of youthful exuberance.

In a chat with BBC Hausa Service, Lamido said some persons were instigating the governor against his party.

Wike had contested the presidential primary of the PDP but lost to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. He had shown interest in the vice-presidential slot but Atiku settled for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta.

This had plunged the PDP into post primaries crisis as Wike started fraternising with opposition elements, including All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors.

Lamido asked Wike to be humble and learn lessons from Peter Obi and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

“We did national convention. The highest gathering of decision making of the PDP chose Atiku. Wike contested and lost. Wike is a responsible and committed man but there is some youthful exuberance in him.”

“There are people that are inciting him but the deed has been done and this did not start now. It happened with Peter Odili, it happened with Osinbajo. He should learn a lesson from them,” he stated.

On the PDP crisis, he said, “It is not a crime to have internal friction in politics. What is important is to have people with wisdom, competent people to solve the problem. PDP members should be at ease we won’t disappoint them, everything will be resolved.”

He added that the Osun election had shown Nigerians where the light lies.

“People of Osun have spoken that PDP leadership is the best,” he said.

The second republic politician further stated that those who accused him of nepotism in Jigawa State politics are free to pursue their political directions elsewhere.

He wondered why some people were upset with him for supporting the gubernatorial ambition of his son, Mustapha Sule Lamido.

Lamido’s son is the PDP candidate for the 2023 governorship election in Jigawa state.

“Is it a crime to love my son? I think my only crime in Jigawa is having children. Who doesn’t love his children?” he queried. (Courtesy, excluding headline, Daily Trust)
