A Magistrates Court in Osogbo, on Tuesday, ordered that a 37-year-old man, Abiodun Babatunde, be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl in Ikirun.

Babatunde was re-arraigned before the court on a four-count charge bordering on rape, sexual assault and threat to life.

It was gathered that the accused person was earlier arraigned before an Ikirun Chief Magistrate Court on August 21, 2022 before the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Osogbo.

According to report, the accused person committed the offence on March 20, 2022 at Surulere Area, Ikirun, State of Osun.

Police prosecutors, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, told the court that the accused person also allegedly threatened to murder the minor if she mentioned the incident to anyone before he was arrested.

Olusegun said after the incident, the victim had to undergo a medical procedure following injuries she sustained.

The alleged offence contravened the provisions of Sections 31(1)(2) and 32 of the Child’s Rights laws of Osun, 2007 and Sections 360 and 86 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

But the plea of the accused person was not taken due to the nature of the offence.

In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, A.O Odeleye, ordered that the accused person be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre.

Odeleye directed the police to transfer the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Osun for legal advice.

The case was adjourned till November 3, 2022 for mention.
