The Redeemer’s University, Ede, has been ranked as the second overall best and number one among private Universities in Nigeria in the 2022 National Universities Commission (NUC) ranking of the Universities.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Anthony Akinlo, revealed this at a Pre-Convocation press briefing held at the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State on Thursday.
The University will be having its 14th Convocation ceremonies on 13th of October 2022 where guests including Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God are expected.
In his address, Prof. Akinlo said “the ranking has attested to the University’s unprecedented effort at meeting the global best practices of excellence in running higher educational institution. Furthermore, the ranking, has propelled us to inject heavily on infrastructural and human capital development”.
Prof Akinlo also revealed that the school will be graduating 635 students across different departments and faculties. He added that the maiden set of graduands from nursing department and law department will be recorded this year.
Prof Akinlo added that six percentage of students will be graduating with First Class, 39.5% with Second Class Upper Division and others.
“For the first time in the school, a female student, Esther Oluwayemisi will be graduating with a 5.0 CGPA as the overall best graduating student and she will be given an automatic employment after graduation”, he said.
“Also, further to the earlier resource verification and accreditation visit by the National Universities Commission (NUC). the body has approved the commencement of M.Sc. and PhD in Bioinformatics in the African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of infectious Diseases (ACEGID)”,he stated.
“However, to move beyond the shores of the country, the University will be admitting foreign students into some of her programmes. As a matter of fact, more foreign students are being expected to join the existing ones in the new academic session”, Prof Akinlo said.
“To have a conducive learning environment the School has constructed three additional storey building and three bungalow hostel block new academic session. Also a new events centre, Institute of Earth Sciences Building and A 150-Seater Lecture hall and a new sporting pavilion are ongoing on the University campus.
The University has also helped in combating the challenges posed by infectious diseases and public health related issues.
The University African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of infectious Diseases (ACEGID) installed a new Labcyte Echo 525 bioanalyzer, an equipment that automates the library preparation process. The equipment can run 384 samples at once and it requires lower quantities of samples, reagents and shorter time to complete the process.
“It won the Sterling Bank Most Outstanding Genomics Laboratory of the Year Award at the Nigeria Health Excellence Award 2022. This was in recognition of the centre’s contribution to Nigeria and Africa’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic”, he disclosed .
“we are hoping that the Commission would grant us approval to commence all the programmes visited”,he added.
He ,however, admonished the graduating students, not contaminate themselves with things that would take away representatives of the Almighty God in their life.
He said “You have made it through your four years in the higher institution, Diamond Set, I wish to remind you that always remember that you are precious and wherever you find yourselves. Be good to God and the University”.
