Football fans everywhere on earth are eagerly waiting for the commencement of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be taking place in Qatar starting from November 20. The World Cup is rated as the biggest football tournament in the world, considering the level of the competition and the rivalries among the players, nations and even fans.

 

Qatar, who will be hosting this year’s edition of the World Cup, will not be given much chance to win the coveted title – but they may fight harder this time around even though they are not rated among the top footballing nations.

 

In this special report, Insight Sport Arena will be taking a look at the players who have scored the fastest hat-tricks in the World Cup.

 

1. Laszlo Kiss 

Kiss scored the fastest hat-trick in a football match in the history of the World Cup, when he netted 3 goals in the space of 7 minutes for Hungary against El Salvador in Elche, Spain on June 15, 1982.

 

2. Gabriel Batista 

On June 21, 1998, Batista scored a hat-trick in ten minutes for Argentina in their match against Jamaica, which ended as a 5-0 drubbing.

 

3. Gustav Wetterstrom

Wetterstrom scored three goals for Sweden against Cuba in the quarter-final of the 1938 World Cup, which ended 8-0. He scored in the 32nd, 37th and 44th minute for his nation.

 

4. Gerd Muller

Muller netted his hat-trick for Germany at the 1970 World Cup, in a group stage match against Peru. He took just 20 minutes to score thrice: in the 19th, 26th and 39th minute.

 

5. Andrzej Szarmach

Szarmach scored a hat-trick in 20 minutes, in the 30th, 34th, and 50th, for Poland in their 7-0 win over Haiti in a group stage match on June 19, 1974.

 

6. Erich Probst

On June 19, 1954, Austria beat Czechoslovakia 5-0 in a group stage match at the World Cup, in which Probst scored a hat-trick with goals in the 4th, 21st and 24th minute.
