The Elders of Ikirun land has called on the Osun State Government to reversed the appointment of Prince Yinusa Olalekan Akadiri, the new Akirun of Ikirun, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State by installing Akadiri without the consent of the people
Prof. Chief Yukubu Fabiyi, Baale of Oke-Afo, Ikirun who spoke on behalf of others during a press Briefing in Osogbo on Thursday, said aside that Prince Yinusa Olalekan Akadiri of Oba-Ara Ruling House was installed without the consent of the people, he did not also follow the rightful procedure before installation.
Akadiri was appointed by the state government after Akinrun stool became vacant on February 8, 2021, following the demise of Oba Rauf Adedeji who mounted the royal stool in 1991, he was allegedly elected by a majority of kingmakers earlier this year.
Prof. Fabiyi said they have robbed the people of Ikirun of their traditions “all towns in Osun State have their own traditions as Ikirun has hers, there is a procedure to take before installation of Akinrun but this procedures were jettisoned during the selection and installation of Akadiri and it’s against the tradition and custom of Ikirun land”.
“The procedure lasted for three months before installation and beside we don’t vote before choosing Oba, the Oracle choose our Oba after selection”, he added.
Speaking further, Prof. Fabiyi said the appointment of Akadiri has led to a breakdown of peace and order in Ikirun land.
“Our town, Ikirun Agunbe Onileobi, is known for peace and we the indigenes are peaceful, peaceable and hospitable”.
“In the history of Akinrun Chieftaincy, our town has never had it so bad that the seat of Ikirun Royal power and traditional institution would be shut down violently. Our town has lamentably become a flashpoint of crisis and unrest owing to the Chieftaincy crisis” he said.
