FIFA has chosen Morocco to host the 2023 Club World Cup in February, with an expanded 32-team edition set to debut in 2025.

Gianni Infantino, FIFA President, announced the news on Friday. According to the Associated Press, Infantino told reporters at a press conference in Doha that the tournament will take place from February 1 to 11, 2023.

The traditional seven-team tournament will comprise European champion Real Madrid, South American champion Flamengo, and Seattle Sounders, the first CONCACAF Champions League winner from the United States.

The following major soccer competition will be held in Morocco after the country’s thrilling and inspirational World Cup run, which ended with their elimination in the semifinals in Qatar.

One of the final seven-team editions for continental champions will take place in 2025, when an expanded, month-long competition will begin.

Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, stated that the goal of the change was to “make it really like a World Cup.”

We had previously agreed to have a new, 24-team Men’s Club World Cup, he said. It was delayed because of Covid and was originally scheduled for 2021.

Morocco hosted the Club World Cup in 2013 and again in 2014, while the most recent edition was held in the United Arab Emirates in February, with Chelsea lifting the trophy.
