Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba on Friday commissioned a modern Police station and 30 units lodge for police officers in Ilesha, Osun State.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police coordinating South West, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo did commissioning.
The commissioning took place at the new police station on Friday 30th December 2022 in Ilesha, where well decorated police officers, Kings, chiefs of different societies, the Deputy Governor of the State, Prince Kola Adewusi and other stakeholders in the State.
In his address, Babatunde said the police as an agency of Government, is charged with the responsibilities of protecting lives and property within their environs and will continue to do its best for the people of the country.
“The police force is an agency of the government, charged with sole responsibilities of protecting lives and property, the welfare of the police officers are paramount”.
“The Welfare of the officers go a long way in determining their efficiency and attitude to work. Impacting positively on the welfare of the officers will enable them to work very well”.
The police chief revealed that the modern Police station will be built across Nigeria, and Osun State happens to be one of the states benefitting from the first tranche of the project.
“The modern Police station is fixed with modern equipment, also accommodation facilities provided for principal officers of the division”.
Meanwhile, he urged the officers in the division to abide by the community philosophy and also called for the active participation of the public, urging them to work in collaboration with the public to ensure adequate protection of lives and property of the community.
Deputy Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, Lawrence Ayeni appreciated God for the launching of the modern police station, applauded the police force for the new development.
Ayeni, who facilitated the project, assured that with the new infrastructure, the police officers will be eager to work more effectively. He called on police to do more to curb the activities of cultism in Ijesha land.
“The notorious cult that have been launching attacks on innocent lives, with this new development there will be internal safety of lives and property, adequate surveillance will be put in place, there will be zero tolerance to crime”.
Representing the Executive Governor of Osun State, the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, said ” this is a remarkable achievement considering the insecurity imbalance in the country, its a commendable efforts of the police force”.
“We want more of this in the State.It’s not meant for decoration, but for men of the police force who are up to task, to make use of it adequately”.
“It will also enhance thier performances in their duty as officers, also to encourage them to do more in thier services to the society”.
The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde Longe appreciated the Inspector-General for the new infrastructure built to impress and encourage the officers in the division to work more diligently, in order to ensure a safe, serene environment for the people of Ilesha.
