The National President of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Comrade Obaji Uchenna Marshall, has commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) under the leadership of Professor Ishaq Oloyede, over the total remittance of 50billion naira to the coffers of the Federal government since the advent of the latter’s tenure in office.
In a statement released to newsmen on Friday, 16th December 2022, the newly elected University Students President stated that the feat so far achieved by the Ishaq Oloyede led JAMB is worthy of applause and commendation, having observed his probity, prudent use of funds and financial integrity.
Comrade Obaji Marshall said “ On behalf of University Students in Nigeria and all those who have participated in JAMB exams over the years , I extend sincere appreciation and commendations to the Registrar of the Board over the consistency of funds remittance to the Federal Government, since he assumed office.
“ It will be recalled that the since Prof Oloyede took over the administration of JAMB in 2016, the Board has recorded renewed probity and judicious use of funds, as against the previous leadership. Therefore, University Students in Nigeria see this as a good omen, and a development worthy of celebration and emulation.
In further words, the Ebonyi state born student of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources and Engineering (FUPRE), also stated that the commendation was not done with the intent to praise sing the Registrar unnecessarily, rather it is a move to inform JAMB leadership and other relevant social institutions related to university students development and welfare, that the Marshall Obaji NAUS administration is on ground and keenly observing social developments.
“This commendation is an indication that the Comrade Obaji Marshall administration is aware, keenly observing and following up developments that concern Nigerian University students, as well as other developments in the country.
“ For JAMB, we remember a time when the remittance of the Board was no where to be seen and nothing to write home about, despite a consistent rise in university admissions through the Board’s yearly examinations over the years, but we also note the sharp contrast that the Prof Oloyede JAMB leadership has rendered, to the benefit of the nation’s finances.
“This ultimately shows that University students are very much involved in the financial development of the country, via the Jamb registration exercise, therefore their plight should be considered, most especially because University students constitute a higher percentage to the student and youth population of the country ”, Comrade Obaji added.
