The Nigerian Bar Association has stated that it will see that justice is served in the case of a lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, who was brutally murdered by a police officer on Christmas Day while inside a vehicle with her husband in Lagos State’s Ajah district.
NBA National Publicity Secretary, Akorede Lawal described the incident as unfortunate, adding that the association’s president, Yakubu Maikyau, was monitoring the situation.
“We are conscious of this unfortunate incident,” he tweeted. This is yet another heinous crime committed against a lawyer. Unfortunately, our member has passed away. The NBA President @YCMaikyauSAN is correct, and we will ensure that justice is served.”
However, the Lagos State Command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has stated that the officer fully accountable for the killing and other suspects have been apprehended.
“Unfortunate and avoidable incident,” he tweeted. The ASP who fired the shot and two others with him were apprehended. They will be transferred to the SCID for further investigation.
“The Lagos State Police Command consoles with the family, friends and colleagues of Barrister Bolanle Raheem.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, has been in touch with the family and the Nigerian Bar Association since yesterday and has given firm assurances that justice will definitely prevail.”
