Portugal are reportedly eyeing Jose Mourinho as their next manager, with current boss Fernando Santos said to be close to stepping down from the job in the wake of his team’s World Cup exit at the hands of Morocco.
Mourinho is currently in charge of Serie A giants Roma but could juggle two jobs if he takes charge of the national team.
Portugal stormed into the knockout stages of the World Cup after defeating Ghana and Uruguay in their opening two matches in Qatar. And despite losing to South Korea in their final group game, the team won Group H to set-up a last 16 showdown with Switzerland
Santos’ side were in imperious form against their European rivals as they cruised to a 6-1 victory with the help of a hat-trick from Goncalo Ramos. And they were tipped by some to go all the way after being drawn to face Morocco in the quarter-finals.
But Portugal never really got going in their last eight showdown and were dumped out of the competition after losing the match 1-0.
