The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council’s Agro Commodities Directorate has set a goal to secure over 17 million votes for its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his running mate, Senator Kassim Shetimma, in next month’s election. The directorate will host a national farmers stakeholders engagement and mobilization summit in Abuja on Thursday to achieve this target.
“We have perfected plans to mobilize 201,735 lead farmers Grassroots voters mobilizers who will, in turn, mobilize 25 voters each for the polling for a total of 5 million votes for Tinubu/Shettima,” said the secretary of the Agro Commodities Directorate, Mr. Retson Tedheke. We also expect about 500,000 farmers leaders and rural Grassroots mobilizers across all agricultural commodities associations, groups, and cooperatives to deliver a combined number of 12,500,000 farmers votes for Tinubu/Shettima.”
Leaders from farmers associations and groups from across the country will attend the summit to discuss the APC’s manifesto and how farmers can benefit from it. The summit will also provide the opportunity for the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mohammed Abubakar Mahmood, to present the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari in agriculture and food security.
“We are working to ensure Tinubu’s victory in the poll for [Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria] to enjoy more government support,” said Alhaji Aminu Goronyo, National President of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria.
The Maize Association of Nigeria also expressed its support for Tinubu and Shettima, saying it is mobilizing its members to vote for the APC candidate.
