The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries, described All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the best option in the upcoming election on February 25th. He made this statement while delivering a keynote address at the 10th anniversary of The Black Table Club in Gbagada, Lagos.
“Next election is just 26 days away from today. As you all know, I am seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This time, I am campaigning on my outstanding records of service. I am also campaigning with the resolve to see to the completion of unfinished tasks that our Leader (Asiwaju Tinubu) started long before now”, said Abiru.
He encouraged club members to vote for Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and all APC candidates in the upcoming election. “In Lagos, Distinguished Members, this election is important for all of us as a people. It is not about me alone. It is about one of our illustrious leaders and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Whichever perspective we may want to look at it, Asiwaju needs no introduction being an Architect of modern Lagos”, he added.
“Without mincing words, Asiwaju parades the confidence, competence, and capacity required for accomplishing the task of nation-building. Asiwaju’s rich exposure in the private and public sectors presents cross-sectoral advantages that we all need as a federation to surmount perennial challenges that hold our fatherland down”, Abiru continued.
Abiru also spoke about Governor Sanwo-Olu’s re-election bid and the importance of supporting other APC candidates in the 2023 election. “It is about my brother and Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is seeking re-election on March 11. The recent inauguration of Imota Rice Mill, Light Rail (Blue Line), Lekki Deep Sea Port, and JK Randle Center for Yoruba Culture and History, among others, attests to Mr. Governor’s records of sterling performance”, he said.
Abiru also talked about his connection to Gbagada, where he lived between 1977 and 1994. “I grew up here with the sentiments of the neighborhood, family ties, sports, and social spirits. Although I am no longer living here, I am still as attached to Gbagada as when I was residing. Aside, Gbagada still falls under my senatorial district, and I enjoyed the support of its residents during my election”, he said.
Abiru discussed his performance as a senator, stating that his assignment is anchored on three major pillars: legislative role, empowerment/facilitation, and endowment. “Since my election on December 6, 2020, respect for public trust has been my guiding principle, indeed the core value that largely defines my perspective on legislative representation. I daily discharge my duties as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with the consciousness that I am holding the office in trust for my constituents, the people of Lagos State, and by extension Nigeria at large”, he said.
“Under the legislation, I have sponsored 13 private member bills; co-sponsored three other bills, and moved two motions on issues of national significance”, Abiru continued. “The efforts are evident in the reconstruction of Ikorodu-Shagamu and the planned rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Itokin-Epe road.
