As part of his contributions to the attainment of Goal 4 of the Sustainability Development Goals (Quality Education), Hon David Ayodele Asalu has once again demonstrated philanthropism by dishing out scholarships for students in Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo local government areas of Osun State.

The Chieftain for the All Progressives Congress on Saturday dished out scholarships to 550 students. 250 students have their registration fees for West African Examination Council paid while the remaining 300 students were given free Joint Admissions Matriculation Board forms.

The empowerment programme and distribution of forms were held at the farmer’s secretariat on Saturday, in Ejigbo.

Addressing the beneficiaries and thier parents, Asalu stated his concern is to eradicate illiteracy and poverty of minds across the region.

He said, “As my intentional contribution to the advancement of education in this region,
I noted that overtime that fighting poverty and tightening economic conditions in this country has made many parents and guardians unable to finance their wards to higher education.

“My free WAEC and UTME forms are approach to ensuring that these wards of diligent parents are not banned from pursuing higher education because of thier parents economic conditions”, he explained.

“Over the years, under this intervention we have registered over 1500 utme students, and I use this opportunity to call on other people to lend a hand in bringing up these wards across our local government and across the State”.

Benefiting students

“I also encourage beneficiaries to encourage not to take this opportunity for granted, face your studies and ensure that you put all your minds into the pursuit of quality education”, he admonished.

“As I have promised earlier, anyone of you who distinguishes themselves, will stand a chance to enjoy scholarships for tertiary education , and I will continue to provide physical support , tutorial programmes so all of you can have solid quality education”.

When asked if his actions were election related, the APC chieftain stated that it was responsibility, adding that he is not on the ballots.

He advised the beneficiaries of the programme to study hard and pass thier exams on flying colors, as there are further opportunities to support thier education in future.

“For the best five students in the UTME, I will be sponsoring thier fees from 100 level to 500 level and the first 20 best students will be giving N100,000 each to start up thier education”, he concluded.

One of the beneficiaries, Ogunlakin Isreal appreciated the philanthropist for his good works, and said the act will make him work very hard and he believes that he will one of the beneficiaries of the scholarships.

Adejumo Sulaimon, one of the parents of the students, extended his goodwill message to Ayodele, stating that he has assisted the parents, and they will make sure the students read extensively for the exams.

InsightMedia earlier reported that in the year 2022, Asalu empowered hundreds of farmers with incentives to promote thier farm businesses. He also gave cash prizes to artisans to start business in order to provide for themselves and families.
