The Osun VoteNotFight campaign team has extended thier advocacy visit to the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Osun State Chapter to sensitized their members on the need to have a violence-free society before, during and after the general election.
Jare Tiamiyu, the Osun State Coordinator of VoteNotFight led the team to the Osun State secretariat of the association located at Biket junction, Osogbo on Wednesday.
Tiamiyu, who is the Executive Director of Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development, a non-profit organization, encouraged the workers to perform their civic rights by voting during the election, and not engage in any form of violence that could lead to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere is Osun State.
Speaking further, the media practitioner stressed on the dangers of causing violence during the election.
“The masses are the ones suffering from the violence because whoever win or lose the election will continue to live their lives afterwards. Only the families of the victims will bear the brunt. So we need to ensure we conduct ourselves peacefully during elections and to avoid all forms of violence.
“VoteNotFight campaign was able to record success in the 2022 governorship election in Osun State because of your contributions.
“On behalf of the National Democratic Institute, NIGAWD and Insight Initiative, I commend your role in the last governorship election. This has shown that a peaceful election is achievable and together, we can do more in the forthcoming polls. Let’s join hand together to kick violence out of our elections. Transport unions are integral to this and we must keep work together. Violence knows no boundary.”
Prince Adekunle Olatona Abioye, the State Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria told the workers that in order to elect a Leader that will reform the country, they have to vote, he therefore incited them to vote not fight .
He said the attendees of the meeting were leaders from all 30 local government areas of the State, adding that they will relay the message to their members at local government level and at every park.
