The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed that it will deal with the alleged anti-party activities of Governor Nyesom Wike-led Integrity Group after the presidential elections. Insight media reports that Wike, alongside Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo), withdrew from the PDP Presidential Campaign Council last year. The governors demanded that the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, quits his position, insisting that they would not have anything to do with the campaigns if Ayu remains in office.
Following Ayu’s refusal to step down and the PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar’s non-interest in sacking the former Senate President, the governors have since switched their support to their preferred presidential candidates. While Makinde and Wike are allegedly working for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, Ortom has openly endorsed the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi. Meanwhile, Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi are reportedly torn between supporting Atiku and Obi.
Sources within the PDP ssaidthat the party’s leadership is planning to take action against the governors after the presidential elections. According to a member of the PDP National Executive Committee, the governors’ actions have infuriated party stakeholders across the board, and failure to call them to order would raise many questions from loyal members of the party.
The PDP leadership has remained tight-lipped about the fate of the Integrity Group, but the Deputy National Youth Leader of the party, Timothy Osadolor, has stated that sanction for the aggrieved governors “is not a question of if but when.” Osadolor added that after the dust of the elections has settled, the party would revisit the issue, and the full wrath of the law would fall upon the governors. “It’s not a matter of if, but of when,” he said.
