Aliyu Wadada of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has been declared the winner of the Nasarawa West Senatorial District election held on Saturday, February 25th, 2023. Wadada, who polled 96,488 votes, beat his closest rival, Shehu Tukur of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 47,717 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result on Monday in Keffi, the headquarters of the senatorial district. The Returning Officer of the election, Prof Nasir Baba, declared Wadada as the winner and returned him elected.

Wadada is expected to replace Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who vacated his seat in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly after emerging as the National Chairman of the APC. Other candidates who participated in the election include Jatau Justice of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bala Tongorma of the Labour Party (LP), Wakil Kabiru of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Umar Musa Galadima of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Jibrin Sani Shehu of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The SDP candidate, Aliyu Wadada, expressed gratitude to the people of Nasarawa West Senatorial District for their support and promised to represent them well in the National Assembly. He also thanked INEC for conducting a free and fair election.

The election was reportedly peaceful, with no major incidents recorded. The announcement of Wadada’s victory has been received with mixed reactions, with some residents expressing satisfaction with the outcome, while others have raised concerns about the conduct of the election.
