Abia State Labour Party Vanguards have called on the party leadership to adhere to the terms of the agreement reached with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, before the presidential election held on February 25.
The Labour Party in the state stated that there was an agreement between the two camps to collaborate for Peter Obi’s emergence in the last presidential election, in which the Labour Party candidate emerged victorious. Therefore, they called on their party leaders to honor the terms of the agreement.
The Coordinator of the Vanguard, Chetachi Ikpe, commended the Abia state government for providing all necessary logistical support to Obi to enhance his victory. She also noted that, unlike other South Eastern states that worked against LP’s candidate, Ikpeazu had the opportunity to behave similarly but chose not to tamper with Obi’s votes. Unfortunately, he sacrificed his senatorial bid in the process.
Thus, LP leaders in Abia State are restraining Peter Obi from coming to Abia to campaign for the LP’s gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Alex Otti in the state. They believe that it is only fair and just that their principal should be his usual honorable self by keeping to the terms of the agreement and should not return to Abia to openly campaign for Dr. Alex Otti, to avoid antagonizing the Governor, who has kept his side of the bargain.
The Abia State Labour Party Vanguards implore their party leadership to maintain the integrity of the agreement reached with the PDP’s Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and refrain from any actions that could jeopardize their political gains in the state.
