The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Dr. Tony Nwoye, as the winner of the senatorial election for the Anambra North district.

The election results were announced by the INEC Returning Officer for Anambra North, Prof. Kingsley Ubaorji of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, on Friday at the Onitsha North Local Government Headquarters. The declaration followed the resolution of initial challenges at the Ogbaru wards.

According to the results, Nwoye scored 94,779 votes to defeat the incumbent, Senator Stella Oduah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 50,146 votes. Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, the wife of the immediate past governor of the state, who ran on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), came in third with 48,212 votes.

Ubaorji declared Nwoye the winner, having satisfied the constitutional requirement for the number of valid votes cast for the election.

The declaration of the Labour Party candidate as the winner of the Anambra North senatorial election has elicited mixed reactions from stakeholders, with some congratulating Nwoye on his victory, while others have expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the election.
