Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, has announced that he will be heading to the Court of Appeal over the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) refusal to allow his party to inspect electoral materials used during the presidential election. Obi made this announcement on Wednesday while expressing his frustration over his inability to campaign for LP governorship candidates across the country.
Obi, who came third in the presidential election behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and the winner, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, had previously contested his loss and requested to inspect the materials used during the election. However, with INEC’s refusal, Obi has now opted to take his case to the Court of Appeal.
In a series of tweets, Obi expressed his disappointment at the situation, stating that he was supposed to commence the whistle-stop campaign for the Labour Party’s various Governorship and State Assembly Candidates. His trip was scheduled to take him to several states across the country, including Nasarawa, Lagos, Enugu, Abia, Delta, Edo, Rivers, Plateau, and Borno.
Obi went on to urge his supporters to continue campaigning for the party’s candidates, emphasising the importance of voting for candidates with Competence, Character, Capacity, and Compassion. He remains committed to retrieving the party’s mandate, stating that “A new Nigeria is possible!”
As the Labour Party Presidential Candidate prepares to take his case to the Court of Appeal, Nigerians wait to see how the situation unfolds and what impact it will have on the political landscape of the country.
