In a move that has brought great joy to Nigerian football fans, the country’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons, has moved up three places in the latest FIFA women’s ranking. The announcement was made by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Friday, marking the first women’s ranking of the year 2023.

The Super Falcons, who are nine-time African champions, were ranked 45th in the previous ranking, which was released in December 2022. The team’s improved performance has seen them move up to the 42nd position in the latest rankings.

In addition to moving up in the world rankings, the Super Falcons have maintained their first position in Africa. This is a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication to the sport.

The Super Falcons were last in action in February when they participated in the Revelation Cup, a four-nation invitational tournament. The team won one game and lost twice in three outings, but their performance was enough to earn them a place in the top 50 in the world rankings.

Looking ahead, the Super Falcons are expected to regroup next month to engage Haiti and New Zealand in friendlies in Antalya, Turkey. These games will be an opportunity for the team to continue to build on their recent successes and further improve their ranking.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published on June 9, 2023. Fans of the Super Falcons will be eagerly awaiting the announcement to see if the team has continued its upward trajectory in the rankings. For now, though, the team and their supporters can celebrate this impressive achievement and look forward to what the future holds.
