Anthony Joshua, a boxer with Nigerian roots, defeated Jermaine Franklin, and President Muhammadu Buhari applauded Joshua’s victory over a tough foe.
The president praised Joshua’s attitude, saying he refused to let his own setbacks and challenges break his resilient spirit. Joshua, a former three-time world heavyweight champion, has proven that those who dare to compete succeed through diligence, perseverance, patience, dedication, and humility, the president said.
President Buhari praised Joshua for his bravery and self-control, both inside and outside the ring, and expressed his hope that this victory would serve as a springboard for one of the greatest comebacks in boxing history.
“I believe that the accomplishments of Joshua on the world stage will continue to inspire many upcoming professionals, particularly sportsmen and women, not to be discouraged by temporary defeats and setbacks”, he said.
He wished Joshua a bright future and fulfilling career.
