When good people die, they refuse to leave their people as their good deeds will forever be green in the minds of their loved ones. The above summarizes the atmosphere at the Ilobu House Complex on Saturday as members of Ilobu Concerned Citizens held the first edition of Adejare Mikhail Adebisi Memorial Education Grant.
The Grant, which was held in honour of the Former Deputy Chief of Staff to Osun State Governor, Barr. Mikhail Adejare Adebisi, was presented to two Law students.
According to the Chairman of ICC, Mr Ademola Oladosu, the Group was founded in the late 1990s with Adebisi as one of the Foundation members.
He said “the love of Ilobu is what bonded members and that has been the sole project of our association. We have been doing different things to pursue this objective.”
Oladosu called on parents and well meaning individuals to emulate the Late Adebisi by providing assistance to those in need, especially students of less privileged in the society.
“When Barrister Jare Adebisi was alive, he assisted so many people. Many students were on his scholarships. This is why we are calling on parents to prioritize the education of their wards. We must also ensure we take care of female students. The era of stopping after SSCE is gone.” Oladosu said.
Corroborating his Chairman, Scribe of the ICC, Professor Suleiman Aderemi Ajala said the organization only decided to immortalize Adebisi with what he was reputable for while alive. “After his death, we met his wife who told us to go and ensure that we commence a programme that will continue to support students who were under the scholarships of Adebisi. This is why we came up with this programme. It’s a way of continuing the legacy of our late colleague.”
Ajala also used the avenue to highlight some of the numerous good deeds of Adebisi while alive, stating that “I was a beneficiary of his gestures at different points.”
In his speech, Chairman of the occasion, Mr Rasheed Alabi urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grant. He also encouraged them to be good ambassadors of Ilobu who will in future become donors to the development of the community.
“This is a grant and not a loan. We beseech you to use this grant judiciously. This will not only make the givers happy but also encourage them to do more for others who are in need of it. Ensure you face studies and do Ilobu proud at all times. You should also envision yourselves as donors to the development of Ilobu in future.” Alabi, who is the Accountant-General of Osun State said.
The beneficiaries are Ajilogba Hammed, a law student of University of Ilorin and Abdulazeez Imam, also a law student but from the Osun State University, Ifetedo campus.
The duo and their parents appreciated the gesture of Ilobu Concerned Citizens and promised to make judicious use of the grants.
Present at the event were family members of late Adebisi, members of the ICC and numerous reputable sons and daughters of Ilobu.
