As fighting intensifies in Sudan’s capital city of Khartoum, several European countries have evacuated their diplomats and nationals. However, the UK government has stated that its capacity to help British citizens is severely restricted until a ceasefire is achieved.

Foreign Secretary James Cleverly emphasized that there are explicit threats and violence directed towards diplomats in the region, necessitating the evacuation of embassy staff. As a result, the situation remains a “nightmare” for British nationals left behind in Sudan, according to a local businessman.

France, Germany, Italy, and Spain have all begun evacuation procedures, but the UK government insists that it is doing all it can for its citizens. The conflict has seen deadly shooting and shelling, and the safety of foreign nationals remains a concern.

Despite the UK’s limited ability to provide assistance, the government continues to monitor the situation and urges British nationals to remain vigilant and keep up to date with travel advice.
