The Osun State Police Command, on Wednesday arrested six suspects for allegedly robbery and snatching of unregistered Vehicle in Osun State.
The Public Relations officer, SP Yemisi Opalola while briefings the News Men at the State Command said, “the complainant reported at Gbongan Division on 15th of June, 2023 that, he (Driver) picked four passengers from Opic park, Ogun State heading to Abuja with unregistered Mercedez Benz car.
“On getting to a point around Ikire jurisdiction, the said passengers forced him to stop and started shooting to scare him, while struggling with them, he was stabbed with a knife at his left hand, pushed him out of the vehicle and suspects went away with the said 4matic Benz car”.
“He (Driver) further stressed that he can identify the suspects if seen. Immediately Police received the report, a team of policemen on stop and search along Ibadan/Ile-Ife express way, Gbongan was alerted, but when the suspects sighted the policemen, they abandoned the said car and took to their heels and escaped to the bush. Police did not rest on his oars; combed the bush where two of the suspects were arrested. Efforts put in place by Anti-Kidnapping Squad yielded more result whereby four other suspects were arrested at Lagos State” PPRO stated.
Ibrahim Yusuf, who was the leader of the gang narrated how they hijacked the car.
“I used to steal vehicles from Lagos, along the expressway where made attempt to collect the vehicle”.
“The car had a flat tyre when we were trying to escape and return to Lagos. We noticed that the car was giving us issues after we fixed the flat tyre.
“We ran into a town (Gbongan), trying to look for mechanic but we didn’t find any. The victim who we injured found us when we were about to leave the mechanic place, and immediately raised alarm when he saw us.
“Two of us escaped to one direction while the other two escape to another direction. We spent sometime in the bush before coming out. We were later arrested by the by police officers.” He said.
The gang leader later confessed that it has been a year since they started stealing cars and have successfully collected six vehicles in their operation. He added that this is their first time operating in Osun State.
SP Opalola added that Investigation is still ongoing, assured the general public that timing, credible and useful information is very important at serving you better.
