It was a colourful and joyous moments on Wednesday as residents and indigenes of Idofian gathered at the Eid Praying to observe two Rakkat prayer as part this year’s Eid-l-kabir festival.
The gathering started at about 9am as well dressed sons and daughters of the community assembled to observe the celebration.
The ground became more elated upon the sighting of philanthropist son of the town, Alhaji Rasheed Alabi Agbalaya, who entered the ground with hundreds of his supporters at about 9:30am.
In his sermon shortly after the prayer, the Chief Immam of Idofian, Sheikh Tohiru Alao emphasized on the needs for Muslims to always sacrifice for others.
He urged residents of the town to be united and show love to one another. The Imam enjoined faithful to always submit to the will of Almighty Allah as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
Residents calls on Government to select ‘right’ monarch
Shortly after the prayer, residents of the community called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to expedite actions on the selection of a monarch for the town.
Some of the residents who spoke with our correspondent expressed worries over prolong vacancy at the Palace of Oludofian.
They underscored the importance of having a monarch as an integral tools towards attracting development to a community.
An elder in the community, Alhaji Abdulyekeen Adunasi said, “we call on our amiable Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to expedite actions on process of filling the vacant stool at our palace. We know the importance of this and we hope the right man will be installed as soon as possible.”
When asked who the right man is? The community leader simply said “Alhaji Rasheed Alabi Agbalaya is the right man for the throne. Everyone knows. “
To another resident, Taiwo Akanbi, the prolong controversy around the stool of Oludofian has continued to deprive the community of several benefits.
“We use this celebration period to call on the Governor of Kwara State to help install someone from Agbalaya as soon as possible. We need a monarch in Idofian. It’s over two years now that we have been without a head.”
Idofian throne has been vacant since the death of Oba Zubair Oyesoro in June 2021. Oba Oyesoro died at age of 96, having been on the throne for 54 years.
