Westham United Manager, David Moyes has described winning the Europa Conference League his greatest moment in his 25 years of football management.
The club won a trophy for the first time in 46 years on Wednesday, beating Fiorentina with a 90th-minute goal from Jarrod Bowen. Moyes has previously achieved notable triumphs, including helping Everton qualify for the Champions League in 2005 and later succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013.
Moyes said lifting the trophy was the crowning moment in his career despite previous achievements. He described the occasion and the subsequent celebration with his family as “a brilliant feeling”.
Moyes joined the club in 2017-18 and saved them from relegation before leaving at the end of the season. He returned in December 2019 and helped guide the club clear of relegation as well as achieve qualification for the Europa League. Last season the club reached the semi-finals, but lost to Eintracht Frankfurt.
By winning the Europa Conference League, West Ham have qualified for next season’s Europa League and will play in European football for a third consecutive season.
Moyes said this was just another step on the road of continued progress for the club, which he described as a “great family club” that does wonderful work in the community.
He added: “We have gone unbeaten in Europe, which is incredible. We only lost last year in a semi-final. Two incredible years and we get another one now.” Moyes shared the moment with his 87-year-old father, David Sr., whom he placed his medal around after the match.
