Pep Guardiola paid a tribute to Manchester City legend, David Silva following news of his retirement from football.
The 37-year-old announced his retirement in an emotional video earlier this week, following the news that he has suffered a long-term ACL injury.
Silva joined City in 2010 having just won the World Cup with Spain, and left a club legend in 2020 with four Premier League titles, five League Cups and two FA Cups under his belt.
The Spaniard will forever hold a special place in the hearts of many Blues and is viewed by some as the greatest player in the club’s history.
Silva had spent the last three seasons playing for Real Sociedad in Spain, where he helped them lift the Spanish Cup and qualify for the Europa League.
However, an ACL injury this summer has prompted him to call time on a glittering career that will see him remembered as one of the best players to play for Spain, City and in the Premier League.
“Well it is definitely sad news,” Guardiola told reported in Seoul. “His impact not just at Man City, which was unbelievable, but every team he played for Valencia, Eibar, national team. The best I have seen playing in the pockets. He was one of the players who allowed for the success of this team. David is one of them.
“We wish him all the best in the future from the whole Manchester City family. It absolutely was a pleasure to be his manager and see day in and day out the quality he had.”
