In checking the activities of the State Government, The Osun Masterminds has called on the State Government on the need follow due process in the awards of contracts.
The Executive Director of the Organisation, Prof Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli made this call during the August edition of the State of the State address on Monday in Osogbo. Adding that proper assessment must be done on intended projects before embarking on them.
“We are however concerned about the spread of the projects in terms of location and advise the government to review his spread of the projects to reflect concern for all parts of the state.
” We are equally worried that contracts awarded are not been advertised as provided for by the law. We can’t for the purpose of political correctness and the need to deliver campaign promises continue to break the law. It won’t be in the best interest of the state.
“We challenge the Governor to put in place a team for quality assurance lest we buy less quality with unavailable funds.
“We again reiterate that Government must ensure that it does proper needs assessment of intended projects before embarking on them. This is to ensure that the State does not continue to execute projects that are not in tandem with new developmental realities and needs of the societies that make up the State. Projects should not be projects for projects sake, but for needs sake” he said.
Addressing the issues of the boreholes projects, the group demanded that the government should account for the finances spent on building the projects, for the purpose of record and accountability.
Also advising that the Government to be careful with decisions regarding State-owned tertiary institutions, he said “Government must also be careful with the steps it is taking with the State’s educational institutions. Education is a sensitive matter that cannot be administered with political emotions. Decisions must be taken carefully to manage the issues surrounding the administration of the State-owned tertiary institutions.
Also on education, the group also advised the Federal Government to consider ther payment of outstanding salaries of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU as part of measure to provide palliative in the present state of the Nation.
