Pep Guardiola was not in attendance for Manchester City’s latest win, but that did not stop him making another piece of Premier League history.

The Catalan coach is currently taking in an enforced break from the dugout after undergoing minor back surgery. He is in the fortunate position of being able to pass coaching responsibility on to others without his absence having much of an impact on proceedings.

City were made to work hard for three points in their latest outing against Sheffield United – with Erling Haaland missing a penalty at one stage – but secured a 2-1 victory courtesy of a dramatic late strike from 2023 Champions League final hero Rodri.

That success was the 200th in Premier League competition that Guardiola has overseen, with a double-century of victories reached in just 269 games. He has become the quickest manager to reach that notable landmark in English top-flight history.

Guardiola will be back on the City bench after the September international break, with his team already the only ones in the 2023-24 Premier League campaign that boast a 100 per cent record through three rounds of fixtures
