A technical issue at UK air traffic control has led to long delays to flights with passengers stuck on planes and at airports.
National Air Traffic Services says it has “identified and remedied” the fault and is working with airlines and airports to get things back to normal.
The issue with its flight planning system led it to bring in traffic restrictions to “maintain safety”.
Several UK airports have warned of delays and cancellations – as well as airlines including British Airways, Ryanair, EasyJet, Virgin Atlantic and Aer Lingus.
Passengers have told BBC News how they’ve been affected – with many now not expecting to fly for several hours
Transport Secretary Mark Harper said the government was “doing all it can” to help Nats – as Labour and the Lib Dems urge action from ministers.
He later confirmed around 3 hours GMT that the “technical issue” . . . has now been resolved”.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, he said he is continuing to work with Nats to “help them manage affected flights and support passengers” alongside Aviation Minister Baroness Vere.
“All passengers should still contact their airline for specific flight information,” Harper’s latest statement said. (Pieced together from BBC reports)
