A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in southern Ukraine on Sunday, as a three-week-old baby girl, her 12-year-old brother, and their parents were among the seven victims of a deadly Russian shelling. The family’s home in the village of Shyroka Balka, Kherson, was struck by bombs, leaving a trail of devastation. Interior Minister Igor Klymenko expressed the urgent need to halt the terrorists responsible, emphasizing the necessity of using force.

Photographs released by Minister Klymenko showcased the aftermath of the attack, revealing billowing columns of black smoke rising from the stricken buildings. The village of Shyroka Balka, situated near the Dnipro river, has borne the brunt of ongoing Russian shelling, despite Ukraine’s military efforts to reclaim its territory. Kherson was one of the regions annexed by Russia in the previous year.

The tragic incident followed Russia’s accusation of Ukrainian “terrorism,” citing an alleged missile strike on the Kerch Bridge, which connects mainland Russia to Crimea. Although Ukraine has not confirmed the attack, President Volodymyr Zelensky justified its targeting due to the bridge’s military use. Meanwhile, tensions escalated as Russia fired warning shots at a cargo ship bound for the Ukrainian port of Izmail.

Amidst these dire circumstances, an aide to the exiled Ukrainian mayor of Mariupol reported further casualties. Ukrainian civilians were killed as Russian soldiers clashed amongst themselves in the village of Urzuf. The gunfight erupted following a dispute between Chechen soldiers and local commandant’s office personnel.

As Ukraine continues to grapple with the devastating consequences of Russian aggression, the world watches in sorrow as innocent lives are shattered by the ongoing conflict.
