Self-styled ‘sonic’ artiste, Olawale Ibrahim Ashimi aka Brymo, has launched a barrage of attacks at Afro-fusion artiste, Burna Boy.
While discussing his contract with Chocolate City which he termed ‘null and void’, Brymo was obliged to comment on the supposed tussle between Burna Boy and Rema regarding their disagreement on certain aspects of Afrobeats.
Burna Boy had made some disparaging remarks about Afrobeats in an interview, claiming it lacked substance among others.
His comments later sparked debates for days from several quarters including some of his colleagues.
On the other hand, Rema in a departure from the stance of Burna, acknowledged the pivotal role of Afrobeats in nurturing sub-genres of music.
During his acceptance speech at the 16th Headies Award, the ‘Calm Down’ global hit maker recognised that Afrobeats accorded him the platform to soar in his musical career.
He added that regardless of the sub-genres of Nigerian music any artistes decide to do; they would ultimately gather collectively at the Afrobeats Awards.
When asked to address the conflicting opinions about Burna and other artiste, Brymo also described the former as corrupt, extremely fake, cheap and a sampler of songs as well as slogans.
He wondered how such a person with all the stated vile features could ever be considered for a Grammy award.
Brymo said: “I saw a video where he (Burna Boy) was saying that he was Jesus of Afrobeats and he put Davido and Wizkid on some other mountains.”
“I think he’s sleazy, he’s cheap, he’s a thief. Very unoriginal, very fake. Every song is a sample or stolen slogan. I don’t know, who does that? I mean who awards you Grammys for that?”
