Popular stand-up comedian, Otaghware Onodjayeke, known as Igosave has raised alarm over the alleged swindling of Nigerian internet users by telecommunication companies.

He called on the federal government to look into it and possibly investigate the matter, insisting that Nigerians are being ripped off their hard-earned money by the internet service providers.

He gave instances of people buying a certain amount of data which according to the network service provider should last for one month but gets exhausted in barely a few days after purchase.

Upon returning from his trip to the UK, Igosave shared his data usage experience with his audience, revealing that he had only purchased 7 gigabytes, which he used to stream and download various content.

He said his friends also borrowed his phone to watch whatever they liked, yet the data didn’t finish even after one month which left him wondering why the reverse was the case in his home country.

The humour merchant in a video said: “Now, this is one thing, I think the federal government needs to look into.

“Nigerian telecommunications companies, why are you people ripping Nigerians off? Why?

“See am! I was in Europe…UK I just go come now. I bought 7gig for ten pounds. I download everything, watch everything, one month and e still remains.

“Why will someone subscribe 20gig here and it doesn’t last for even three days? Why?

“Why are you people ripping Nigerians off? And the government won’t address this because you people are paying them tax.

“Why will somebody subscribe for internet, the contract is you have subscribed for 20gig for one month, but doesn’t last up to three days?

“Someone will expend up to N50,000 in a month for data subscription. How much is minimum wage?

“Someone will subscribe 10gig at night, before daybreak, the whole data would have been whipped off.

Igosave suggested the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should also be on the trail of some telecommunication companies just like they do to internet fraudsters aka Yahoo boys.

He noted: “Later you people will be shouting Yahoo boys and EFCC will be chasing them. But EFCC also needs to go after these telecommunication providers.

“Look at the data I bought minutes ago and now it’s finished. Or are my forefathers also using my data with me? Imagine! 20gig didn’t last for three days. Even if I downloaded Long Life and Prosperity with, why? No! No! No!! This is unacceptable!”

Appealing to President Bola Tinubu to look into the alleged theft by telecommunication companies, he added: “Our president, you need to look into this matter.

“Mobile companies are ripping Nigerians off. And if you try calling them, they’ll begin to explain nonsense….maybe you didn’t turn off your data at night.

“But I didn’t turn off my data while abroad. I watched football matches, everything. Even those who watch adult movies used my phone to do that yet the data was still plenty.

“It’s not even like your guys’ network is fast. But when it is time to collect data, you people are swift about that.

“This is wrong. You can’t be ripping people off their hard-earned money despite how hard the country is.”
