No fewer than 22,000 (10kg) bags of rice were distributed on Saturday across three local government areas of Kwara State in the ongoing palliative distribution exercise.
The day marked the fourth day of the exercise and the three local governments covered were: Offa, Oyun and Ekiti Local Government Areas.
The distribution of the palliatives is based on the population of each local government area and according to the information obtained from a member of the palliative distribution committee, Mr. Stephen Awoyale, the breakdown of the three local government areas are as follows:
The total population of Offa local government which has 12 wards is 148,217. Therefore, 773 bags were shared across the wards, amounting to 8800 bags in total.
Oyun local government also boasts an estimated population of 155,786 with 11 wards. It was gathered that 800 bags would be shared to the most vulnerable persons across the wards which comes to 8,800 bags in total.
The other local government, Ekiti, has an estimated population of 90,659 with 10 wards. A number of 440 bags were disbursed to the wards amounting to 4,400 bags in total.
Giving the recap of the exercise on both Friday and Saturday, another member of the committee, Dr. Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe, said it was a success story on Friday as they focused on Ilorin East and the remaining parts of Ilorin South.
“Today (Saturday) Oyun is here taking their consignment likewise Offa and Ekiti Local Government Areas and hopefully by the end of today (Saturday) we would have been through with these local governments,” he stated.
