Ukraine’s counter-offensive against Russian occupation may soon face a natural adversary – the weather. The top-ranking US military officer, Gen Mark Milley, has stated in an interview with the BBC that Ukraine has approximately 30 days left before colder conditions disrupt its operations. Despite progress being slower than anticipated, Ukrainian forces have been making “steady progress” through Russian lines.

On the southern front, Ukrainian generals report having breached Russia’s primary defenses. Reflecting on the protracted conflict, Gen Milley mentioned, “This war was predicted to be long, hard, with high casualties – and that’s what it is.”

Additionally, the UK’s Chief of Defence Staff, Adm Sir Tony Radakin, weighed in, expressing confidence in Ukraine’s efforts. “Ukraine is winning and Russia is losing,” Radakin stated. He emphasized that Russia’s goal to control Ukraine has not materialized and is unlikely to. He credited Ukraine’s success to international economic and diplomatic pressures on Russia.

In an unexpected alliance, Russia has sought support from North Korea. Reports suggest North Korean leader Kim Jong Un intends to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss potential weapons deals. This alliance raises alarms in Washington and Seoul, with speculation surrounding what North Korea might receive in exchange for its assistance.

In another segment of the interview, when questioned about the US military’s stance if Donald Trump, facing multiple criminal charges, becomes commander-in-chief, Gen Milley emphasized the military’s allegiance to the constitution and not any individual.
