Professor Clement Adebooye, the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Osogbo has revealed that the institution is set to graduate 89 first-class students out of a total of 4,210 graduating students.
Adebooye said this at the pre-convocation press briefing held at the University’s Main Campus in Osogbo on Friday.
Prof. Adebooye stated that the institution is poised to continue its journey towards becoming one of the first 10 universities in Nigeria and among the first 25 in Africa.
He said, “We are determined to lead the continent in academic excellence and global visibility. We aim to be among the top 10 universities in Nigeria and the top 25 in Africa by 2026.”
“For this year, we are celebrating the final year students of the 2021/2022 academic session, which concluded in July 2021, and the 2022/2023 academic session, which ended in July 2023. The festivities will span from the 22nd to the 28th of September, 2023.”
“This year is unique, as we merge the 12th and 13th editions of our Convocation, departing from the practice of deferring graduation ceremonies to the following year.”
This decision, he clarified, was a result of technological advancements that streamlined examination and assessment processes, leading to quicker grade calculations and result compilations.
Giving the breakdown, the Vice Chancellor said 89 students bag first class, while 1,326 students bag Second class (upper division), 1,818 students bag second class (lower division), 470 students bag third class and 5 students pass.
Informing the news men with the number of Diplomas that would be awarded; he said 3,959 students would be awarded with first degree, 9 with Postgraduate diploma and 229 Master Degress.
“As Nelson Mandela once said, ‘It often seems impossible until it is done.’ By the grace of God, we’ve turned this vision into a reality. From now on, our students will graduate in September following their July examinations,” Prof. Adebooye noted.
He also expressed deep appreciation for the State Governor, Sen. Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, who will preside over the Convocation Ceremonies for the first time since his election.
“Apostle (Dr.) Folorunso Alakija, the university’s greatest benefactor and Chancellor, will be physically present to confer degrees. Additionally, the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Professor Wale Oladipo, will play his role in this capacity for the first time since his appointment in July.”
Prof. Adebooye’s contagious enthusiasm extended to the university’s ambitious goals, as he declared,
