In light of recent communal clashes, Hon. Sam Oyedotun, Chairman of Osun State Water Resources Board and prominent chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), issued a plea for peace between the residents of Ilobu in Irepodun Local Government and Ifon Osun in Orolu Local Government Area.

The clashes, which have been marked by loss of lives, property damage, and rising tensions, drew Oyedotun’s immediate concern. “These confrontations have created an atmosphere of fear and hostility,” he remarked, emphasizing that such discord hampers the communities’ progress and development.

Highlighting the diligent efforts of Osun State Governor, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, Oyedotun mentioned the governor’s endeavors with foreign investors. “Mr. Governor is working tirelessly, with foreign investment deals nearly 80% finalized. However, investors require a peaceful and harmonious environment,” he added.

Oyedotun drew parallels with the history of animosity between the Ile-Ife and Modakeke communities, which, despite shared cultural practices and intermarriage, witnessed longstanding conflicts. Their eventual decision to coexist peacefully led to significant growth, progress, and development. “Their history is a testament to the power of reconciliation and cooperation,” Oyedotun said.

Appealing to the communities’ shared destiny and goals, Oyedotun implored Ilobu and Ifon Osun residents to prioritize peace and mutual understanding. “By choosing unity and inclusivity, they can unlock immense potential and pave the way for a brighter future,” he emphasized.

Concluding his plea, Oyedotun called upon community leaders to heed the peacebuilding message of Sen. Adeleke and engage in meaningful dialogue. “The onus to ensure lasting harmony falls upon their shoulders,” Oyedotun stated, signaling that the time for unity and development is now.
