In a dedicated effort to champion the cause of persons with disabilities (PWDs), the Osun State Chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) is actively working towards the domestication of laws prohibiting discrimination against PWDs. The organization is fervently striving to create a more inclusive society capable of accommodating a growing number of individuals with disabilities.
The Organization expressed immense gratitude to all media houses for their invaluable contribution in disseminating information regarding the rights and privileges of persons with disabilities across various platforms, including print and digital media.
The JONAPWD’s involvement extends beyond mere rhetoric, encompassing efforts to reshape the lives of its members. This includes spearheading initiatives for the reintegration of 61 dismissed teachers, advocating for the domestication of disability bills, and addressing critical needs such as the distribution of food items across the 31 local government areas.
The central theme for this year’s international day celebration is “United In Action To Rescue And Achieve The SDGs For, With And By Persons With Disabilities.”
JONAPWD urged government bodies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), faith-based organizations (FBOs), and civil society organizations (CSOs) to join forces in combating the pervasive issue of discrimination. The association pledges to employ strategic negotiation approaches to overcome this societal menace.
JONAPWD called for unity in breaking barriers. Anticipating new experiences on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the organization envisions the disability community leveraging the agenda by the year 2025.
In conclusion, JONAPWD emphasized that all the disability clusters are committed to playing their part in achieving the goals and objectives of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities in 2023 through inclusion, unity, and a dedicated team effort.
