Former Paris Saint-Germain star Ezequiel Lavezzi was rushed to hospital in Uruguay after an alleged stabbing at his home, it has been reported.

The former winger was taken to the Sanatorio Cantegrill after possibly being stabbed, suffering a puncture to his abdomen and a fractured collarbone, Clarin reports. While the outlet claims that the incident occurred during an argument at a family party Lavezzi was hosting at his house, TyC Sports says that the family has dismissed such talk and insist he fell from a ladder while changing a lightbulb.

A statement from the police read: “On December 20 next time at 05:00 a police mobile arrives at Arenas de José Ignacio, Secc Jurisdiction where they request support from emergency services. When the police arrived, there was VICTIM Ezequiel IVAN LAVEZZI, who was injured and was being treated… Dr. Agustini, who diagnosed a fractured shoulder blade and transferred him to Sanatorio Cantegril. It is unknown at the moment how the injury occurred, he was at a party.”

Former Argentina international Lavezzi retired from football in 2019 after spending three years with Chinese side Hebei China Fortune. The attacker, now 38, enjoyed spells with Napoli and PSG after leaving his homeland, where he started his career with Estudiantes and San Lorenzo.

Police have not confirmed if the former player was indeed stabbed. An investigation is likely to take place while Lavezzi undergoes treatment in the Uruguayan hospital
