The World Institute for Peace has called for the need for the Federal Government of Nigeria to give military personnel, the best salary scale.

The Institute made this known during a press conference held on Thursday, in Osogbo, adding that it is imperative that military personnel receive the best salaries commensurate with their sacrifices, dedication, and the risks they face.

“The Nigerian military plays a crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, maintaining internal security, and contributing to peacekeeping efforts. As such, it is imperative that military personnel receive the best salaries commensurate with their sacrifices, dedication, and the risks they face”, the statement read.

Citing the risks they face, the institute cited that the military personnel willingly put their lives on the line to protect the nation and its citizens. They face numerous risks, including combat operations, counter-terrorism efforts, and peacekeeping missions.

The statement further read, “A well-funded and adequately compensated military is essential for maintaining national security. Nigeria faces various security challenges, including insurgency, terrorism, and communal conflicts. To effectively combat these threats, the military must attract and retain highly skilled personnel. Offering competitive salaries ensures that the military can recruit and retain the best talent, enhancing its operational capabilities and overall effectiveness.

“Providing military personnel with the best salaries is a means of promoting professionalism and ethical conduct within the armed forces. Adequate compensation reduces the temptation for corruption and unethical practices, ensuring that military personnel remain focused on their duties and responsibilities.

“By rewarding their commitment and dedication, the military can foster a culture of integrity and professionalism, which is crucial for maintaining public trust and confidence.

” The military requires a highly skilled workforce to effectively respond to evolving security challenges. Offering competitive salaries not only attracts talented individuals but also motivates existing personnel to remain in service.

“Retention of experienced personnel ensures continuity, as they possess valuable knowledge, skills, and operational experience that cannot be easily replaced. By providing the best salaries, the military can reduce turnover rates and maintain a highly capable and motivated force.

“A well-compensated military contributes to the overall economic development of the country. Military personnel, with their disposable income, stimulate local economies, support businesses, and contribute to tax revenues.

“Additionally, providing the best salaries improves the social welfare of military families, ensuring their financial stability and access to essential services such as healthcare and education.

Additionally, they also urged Nigerian citizens to support the country’s military by providing first-hand information that can lead to the exposure of criminals who disturb the peace of our great nation, reiterating that the fight against insurgency requires collective efforts from all sectors of society.
