People’s Democratic Party ( PDP), caucus in Akwete / Ohandu, Ukwa East Local Government, Abia state has refuted news making rounds that former House of Representatives Member Rt. Hon. Uzoma Abonta has been suspended. This information was made available to newsmen through a communique signed by members of the caucus. The caucus also frowned at the attempt to ridicule the Board of Trustees ( BOT ) chairman of PDP, H.E Sen Adolphus Wabara, by the current member representing Ukwa Federal Constituency & his supporters. They also stated that the actions of the state party chairman, rather than harmonizing, will disintegrate the party, sighting his attitude is because of the fact he does not like the Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, for the 2023 elections HE Atiku Abubakar.
Recall that, on the 28th of February, 2024, a leader of the party in Akwete/Ohandu ward, Rt. Hon. Abonta who served in the House of Representatives for 16 years, was purportedly suspended from PDP by a faction of the party in Akwete/ Ohandu ward, in Ukwa East LGA. The stage-managed suspension was done by a few persons loyal to the member representing Ukwa Constituency in the National Assembly.
In a twist of the event, the authentic Ward officers in charge of Akwete/Ohandu Ward have issued a Vote of No Confidence against the state party Chairman of PDP, Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere, and the Ukwa East LGA PDP for encouraging rascality within the party, his high-handedness, and anti-party activities.
The summary of the communique for the emergency ward meeting organized by the ward and concerned critical Local Government PDP Excos with Hon. Abonta in attendance reads as follows:
1. That the activities of some members of the party encouraged by the state chairman do not conform with the norms of the party, especially during the last elections
2. It was also agreed that the unnecessary interference of the State Party Chairman in the activities of Akwete/Ohandu Ward and Ukwa East LGA PDP is unbecoming.
3. Also the Rep member representing Ukwa Federal Constituency is strongly advised to focus on his legislative duties to attract the needed development the people of the LGA crave.
4. In the light of above stated reasons, the PDP Akwete/Ohandu Ward thereby passed a vote of confidence on the BOT Chairman, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Adolphus Wabara, and the leader of Akwete/Ohandu Ward,Rt. Hon. Uzoma Nkem Abonta.
5. Also, a vote of No confidence was passed on the State Party Chairman for not living up to the expectations of PDP Akwete/Ohandu Ward and the Ukwa East Local Government PDP.
They also nominated the following persons to man the activities of the PDP structure in the LGA; Barr Glory Kanu, Mr Felix Nwagbara, Mrs Esther Wabara, Mr Tamuno Iyalla & Mr Uche Nwogu. Those to handle the ward structure are Mr. Chisom Israel, Mr. Christopher Solomon, Mrs. Benedicta Okere & Faith Adolphus respectively, after which they adjourned the meeting.
The last is yet to be seen as regards the carefully orchestrated plans to handicap true supporters of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) in Ukwa Federal Constituency, by a few persons loyal to Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere and his cohorts, as they will stop at no length to frustrate and kill the party, for their selfish interest.
