Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has shared insights about his Nigerian heritage

In an interview with the BBC, the 22-year-old football star emphasized the significance of his Nigerian roots and explained the meaning of his Yoruba name.

Although born in England, Saka’s parents are Nigerian, and he has always embraced his dual nationality.

As a product of Arsenal’s Hale End academy, Saka has consistently acknowledged his Nigerian culture and heritage.

During an appearance on BBC Five’s Football Daily Show, Saka was asked about his connection to Nigeria.

He spoke about his heritage, stating, “It means a lot to me. Obviously growing up with Nigerian parents but I grew up in this country, so both sides mean a lot to me.”

When asked about the meaning of his Yoruba name, Saka proudly translated it, saying, “It means added joy.”

He added, “I like my name. If I remember correctly, I think my grandma gave it to me. I have to double-check with my parents, but I think I’m right.”
