The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission has dismissed rumors suggesting that Osun State is hastily organizing local government elections due to the recent Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy.

The Commission maintained that it has revised the notice for local government elections and adjusted the timetable and schedule of activities to enhance inclusive participation.

This announcement was made by the Chairman of the Commission, Barr. Hashim Akintude Abioye, following deliberations on the legitimacy of elections for the LCDAs and Administrative Offices.

The Commission resolved to amend the initial election notice, clarifying that elections will now be held only in the constitutionally recognized Local Government Council Areas of Osun State. Despite these changes, the election date remains fixed for 22nd February, 2025.
