The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Professor Siyan Oyeweso on Monday inaugurated the strategic plan committee to draft the 4th strategic plan of the university.

At the inauguration held on the university campus, Oyeweso said the 3rd strategic plan of the institution has long expired, thereby charging the committee to work on the document as soon as possible.

Oyeweso, “This event marks a significant milestone in our journey towards the planned strategy for achieving our goals of building on legacies of success approved by Council at its inaugural meeting on Monday, 22nd July, 2024 when I presented my maiden address tagged “Building on Legacies of Success”.

“It is therefore a thing of joy for us at Council that this event is coming up within a month of its inaugural meeting where the subject matter was carefully deliberated upon and approved. I therefore wish to seize this opportunity to congratulate Council on this achievement.”

He said the committee will produce a strategic plan for the next 25 years, starting from 2025.

The Pro-Chancellor said, “Strategic Plan is the baby of the Governing Council of any institution and to be driven by Council. Also, such a document must be prepared through a bottom-up approach, with the involvement of all stakeholders in its formation and implementation.

“Given the above, Council at its meeting on Monday, 22nd July, 2024 approved a Strategic Plan Committee comprising all stakeholders. The Committee being inaugurated today is charged to produce a 25-year Plan (i.e. 2025-2050) to map out direction, adapt to changes, optimise resource allocation, attract more funding, ensure sustainability in building on legacies of success and shape a brighter future for the university, to mitigate the current and future challenges.”

He promised that Council under his leadership will work hard to bring back the glory of the institution.

“I promise that we shall work hard to make OAU shine as a global centre of excellence, a veritable beacon of hope for all humanity through innovative research, teaching and learning, outstanding community services and corporate social responsibility on the one hand and by instilling in our students the much-needed values that can enable them to transform our nation and the wider community for the better forever.”
